On October 13, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Fijian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Civil Aviation and International Co-operation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola in Beijing.
Yang pointed out that Fiji was an important island country in the Pacific and both China and Fiji were developing countries that shared many common interests. The Chinese government has always attached great importance to its friendly and cooperative relations with Fiji. Yang said the two countries maintained good momentum in developing bilateral ties with frequent high level visits and increasingly strengthened cooperation in all areas since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1975. China is ready to work with Fuji to take the opportunity of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, further enhance friendly communications and cooperation between the two nations and deepen pragmatic cooperation in all areas in a bid to push bilateral relations to a new level, he said.
Kubuabola said the Fijian government cherished its friendly relations with China and thanked China for its long-term unselfish assistance to his country. Fiji would further expand exchanges and cooperation with China in the areas of economy, trade, tourism, culture and education, among others and push forward the ties, he added. He reaffirmed Fiji's adherence to the one-China policy and congratulated the country on the successful hosting of the Shanghai Expo.
