On May 31, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Japanese Speaker of the House of Representatives Takahiro Yokomichi and President of the House of Councillors Satsuki Eda respectively in Tokyo.

Wen said that China and Japan are close neighbors as well as important countries in Asia and the world. A sound China-Japan relationship is not only in the fundamental interests of both peoples, but is also conducive to regional and world peace and prosperity. Wen said the purpose of his current visit to Japan is to build up mutual trust, enhance cooperation and cement the foundation of bilateral friendship for generations. Wen said he had held fruitful talks with Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, which injected new vigor into China-Japan strategic reciprocal relations.

Wen said parliamentary exchanges are a vital part of Japan-China ties. China's National People's Congress (NPC) has established an exchange mechanism with the two houses of the Diet. The NPC and the Diet should further improve dialogues and deepen mutual understanding to promote friendly feelings between both peoples and play a positive role in boosting Sino-Japanese relations.

Takahiro Yokomichi and Satsuki Eda said Japan and China are important cooperative partners and their relationship is one of the most significant bilateral relations to both countries. The Japanese Diet supports the development of ties with China and is ready to keep closer contacts with the NPC of China, push forward bilateral cooperation and people-to-people friendly exchanges and make contributions to developing Japan-China strategic reciprocal relations.
