On April 9, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Portuguese Minister of State and Foreign Minister Luis Amado in Beijing.
Yang hailed the rapidly developing bilateral relations, saying both countries had secured strong mutual political trust and increased trade and cultural cooperation. China was willing to work with Portugal to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in all areas and push forward bilateral ties. China was grateful for Portugal's support to the Shanghai World Expo, said Yang.
Yang appreciated Portugal’s efforts in pushing forward China-EU relations, saying that currently the relations are at an important stage of inheriting the past traditions and forging ahead into the future. "Both sides should continuously enhance mutual trust, explore new ways of cooperation, seek close coordination and communication on major global issues so that China-Europe relations can adjust to new circumstances and realize long-term stable development," Yang said.
Amado said his country gives priority to cooperation with Asia and emerging countries, particularly China and is ready to further deepen relations with China and push for all-round development of EU-China ties in the new situation. He hoped to take advantage of the Year of Portugal in China in 2011 to strengthen mutual understanding between the two peoples.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
