On April 7, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Indian Foreign Minister Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of common concern.
Yang spoke highly of the sound momentum of all-round development of China-India relationship, saying the two countries have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and continuously expanded pragmatic cooperation in all areas. Both sides have also communicated and worked together on major global issues, including coping with the financial crisis and climate change. "China attaches great importance to the bilateral ties and is willing to work with India for new progress by taking the 60th anniversary of China-India diplomatic relations as an opportunity," Yang said.
Krishna said he was glad to visit China on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. The Indian government attaches great importance to developing ties with China. Strengthening friendly cooperation with China is the shared aspiration of the Indian people, he said, adding that his country would like to work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and push the India-China strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.
After the talks, Yang and Krishna signed an agreement between the government of the People's Republic of China and the government of India on the establishment of the direct secure telephone link between the Chinese Premier and the Prime Minister of India. They also attended an issue ceremony for picture albums and envelopes to commemorate the 60 years' diplomatic relations between the two countries.
