On September 4, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi sent a message of condolence to his Indonesian counterpart Hassan Wirajuda over the heavy casualties and property losses caused by a strong earthquake in West Java of Indonesia. In the message, Yang extended sincere condolences to the quake-affected people, expressing the belief that under the leadership of the Indonesian government, the people in the quake-hit areas will surely be able to rebuild their homeland at an early date.
