On July 28, 2009, the special representative of Chinese President Hu Jintao and Vice Premier of the State Council Wang Qishan stressed after the first round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (SAED) that China and the US should strengthen coordination on macroeconomic policies, stabilize the financial markets and strive to stimulate the economic recovery and increase employment. As the world economy is in a critical moment of moving from crisis to recovery, to boost economic growth remains to be the primary task of China-US cooperation.

He said that China and the US should take active actions to change the economic growth pattern, accelerate structural readjustment, reinforce cooperation on the medical and health system reform and social security network construction, make concerted efforts to build a powerful financial system and safeguard the financial security and stability in their own countries and the world at large.

He noted that China and the US will join hands with the international community in implementing the consensuses reached during the G20 Washington and London summits, enhance coordination, ensure the G20 Pittsburgh summit to achieve positive results, jointly push forward the reform of international financial system and increase the voice and representativeness of the emerging markets and the developing countries.

At the economic dialogue, the second-day event of the China-US SAED, he pointed out that the Chinese economy at present is showing clear signs of turning for the better with ever increasing positive factors. The US financial market tends to stabilize and positive signs also appear in its domestic economy. Both sides should step up exchange and cooperation, precisely control the direction and intensity of macroeconomic policies, improve the policy measures in a timely manner and promote the stable and healthy economic growth.

Talking about economic transition, he indicated that the Chinese government, while trying to maintain growth, strives to expand domestic demand, especially consumption demand, deepen reform and open wider, speed up economic restructuring, guarantee and improve people's livelihood and integrate the development speed with structure, quality with efficiency. The efforts of coping with the financial crisis demonstrate that China is fully capable of stimulating the economic growth by expanding domestic demand under the impact of shrinking external demand.
