On June 22, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with visiting Chairman of the Executive Board of Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) Jibril.

Yang said that China is worried about the continuous crisis and the war-torn people in Libya. We hope that the two sides to the conflict in Libya take the interest of the county and the people seriously, consider the relevant mediation schemes of the international community carefully, cease fire as soon as possible, solve the current crisis through political means and truly give peace a chance. This will benefit the Libyan people fundamentally. The NTC, since its establishment, is becoming more representative and gradually growing into an important political force in Libya. China takes the NTC as an "important dialogue partner". China does not seek personal gain on the Libyan issue and believes the Libyan issue is at the bottom Libya's internal affair and the future of Libya should be decided by the Libyan people themselves.

Jibril noted that the NTC appreciates China's impartial position on the Libyan issue and active role in solving the Libyan crisis and pledges to take necessary measures to protect the safety of Chinese citizens and the property of Chinese businesses in the area under its control.
