On June 10, 2011, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the Foreign Ministry with Basile Ikouebe, visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Congo.
Yang hailed the sound and smooth development of bilateral relations since the two sides established diplomatic ties in 1964, pointing to increasing political trust, rapidly growing trade cooperation and close humanities exchanges. He thanked the Republic of Congo for its support on issues concerning China's core interests, saying China cherishes the traditional friendship with the Republic of Congo and will enhance personnel contact, substantial cooperation and humanities exchanges to bolster bilateral ties.
Ikouebe said since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1964, both sides have been committed to enhancing friendly cooperation in all areas and achieved fruitful results. He said his country benefited a lot from its cooperation with China. The Republic of Congo will adhere to the one-China policy and be a friend of China, he said. Ikouebe urged the two sides to promote cooperation in such sectors as economy, trade, agriculture, science and technology, culture, and enhance consultations and coordination within multilateral institutions so as to consolidate and develop the traditional friendship between both countries.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
