On June 6, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the sidelines of the 10th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Yang conveyed Premier Wen Jiabao's cordial greetings and good wishes to Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Yang said the two countries enjoy traditional friendship with a high level of political trust. The two economies are highly complementary to each other, he said, adding there is huge potential for bilateral cooperation. China is ready to deepen cooperation with Hungary on economy, trade, science, technology, culture, education and tourism to push bilateral relations to a new level. China highly praises Hungary's adherence to the one-China policy and the principle of mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs. With geographical proximity, Hungary has a better understanding of the East and is a good friend of China in EU. Hungary, during its EU rotating presidency, has actively promoted China-EU relations, which China appreciates. Yang hoped that Hungary will continue to play its positive role in deepening cooperation between China and EU, especially between China and Central and Eastern European countries. In the current international situation, enhanced cooperation between the two countries is conducive to deepening Asia-Europe relations as well as the world's stability and development.
Orban said in recent years, Hungary-China relations have made great progress. The leaders of the two countries have been working hard to promote bilateral ties. Both sides have identified the principle of developing bilateral ties and consolidated the foundation of cooperation. Bilateral cooperation enjoys bright prospect. Hungary adheres to the one-China policy and the principle of mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs and will remain open to the East including China and welcome investments from China. Hungary-China relationship has become positive part of EU-China relations and has played a unique role in promoting EU-China relations. China has pursued the right development strategy and successfully boosted economic and social development. Hungary will continue pushing for EU's opening to China, which will help Hungary and EU with their reform process to cope with the global financial crisis.
