On June 22, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi had a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on invitation. The two sides exchanged views on the situation in Kyrgyzstan.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed deep concerns over the current situation in Kyrgyzstan, saying that the United Nations is carrying out humanitarian assistance operations in Kyrgyzstan and hoping to keep close coordination and communication with China on the Kyrgyz situation.
Foreign Minister Yang said that China, as a friendly neighbor of Kyrgyzstan, pays close attention to the developments of the Kyrgyz situation and considers that the top priority at the moment is to properly settle the huge number of refugees as a result of the riot in the south of Kyrgyzstan and avoid the further deterioration of the humanitarian crisis in the region. The Chinese government has so far rendered over-11-million-yuan emergency assistance gratis to Kyrgyzstan to help the Kyrgyz people out of the difficult situation. The Chinese government is considering further increasing humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan. China is willing to keep close contacts with the United Nations over the Kyrgyz situation and make its due contribution to maintaining and promoting the peace, stability and development of the Central-Asian region.
The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of common concern.
