On June 12, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov in Astana.
As good neighbors and strategic partners, China and Kazakhstan had seen rapid development of bilateral relations in recent years, Hu said. In response to the changes in regional and international situations, China and Kazakhstan should work for a comprehensive development of their strategic partnership.
Practical cooperation between China and Kazakhstan has been progressing steadily in recent years. Against the background of the spreading global financial crisis, both sides, by tapping complementary advantages, have made major progress in cooperation on economy, trade, finance, energy and non-resources sectors and played an important role in resisting the negative impact of the international financial crisis on the two economies. China-Kazakhstan pragmatic cooperation enjoyed a solid foundation, great potential and broad prospect, and both sides should create more favorable conditions for trade and actively advance cooperation on energy and resources, he said. Hu said the two countries should carry out a joint study on cooperation in the development and use of clean energy, including wind and solar power. China and Kazakhstan should also earnestly carry on cooperative projects in non-resources sectors by expanding collaboration in modernized agriculture, border port infrastructure construction, large-scale petro-chemical projects and transport, Hu said.
Masimov expressed warm welcome for Hu’s visit, saying that the visit will help push bilateral ties to a higher level. The Kazakh government would earnestly implement the consensus Hu and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev reached during Hu's visit. The investment loans from China have played an important role in Kazakhstan’s economic and social development. Pragmatic cooperation in energy and non-resources sectors enjoys broad prospects. Masimov expressed hope for both sides to further expand trade and economic exchanges and step up cooperation in transport and agriculture to achieve mutual benefits.
On the afternoon of the same day, President Hu met with the staff of the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan and representatives from Chinese-funded institutions, overseas Chinese and Chinese students.
On the evening of the same day, President Hu attended the welcome banquet given in his honor by Nazarbayev.
Ling Jihua, Wang Huning, Dai Bingguo and other officials attended the above activities.
