On June 12, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Oral Muhamedjanov, chairman of the Mazhlis, or the lower chamber of the Kazakh parliament, in Astana.

Hu pointed out that China and Kazakhstan are friendly neighbors and the two peoples enjoy a long history of friendship. China is ready to work with the Kazakh side to push for all-round, in-depth development of bilateral strategic partnership.

Hu emphasized that the legislative cooperation is an important part of bilateral ties and the legislative bodies of the two countries and their special committees have maintained close exchanges and sound cooperation, creating favorable conditions for deepening bilateral cooperation in all areas. Hu lauded the important role of the Kazakh parliament in advancing mutually beneficial cooperation with China. China supports the two legislative bodies to conduct multi-level, multi-channel exchanges and cooperation, enhance contacts in promoting legislative improvement, administrative supervision, economic construction as well as external exchanges, and make positive contributions to pushing forward China-Kazakhstan strategic partnership.

Muhamedjanov said during President Hu’s visit, the two heads of state held fruitful talks, which is of great significance to pushing forward bilateral ties. Reinforcing the strategic partnership with China was a priority for Kazakhstan's foreign policy. The Kazakh parliament supports rapid, stable development of bilateral cooperation in the areas of politics, economy, trade and humanities. Noting the legislatures of the two countries had already set up a mechanism of exchanges, he said the Kazakh parliament would continue to play a constructive role in advancing the Kazakhstan-China relations.
