On April 28, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.
Wen said since the establishment of diplomatic ties 60 years ago, bilateral relations have withstood various tests and become more mature and closer. China and Mongolia share important common interests in safeguarding northeast Asia's stability and coping with the international financial crisis. China will work with Mongolia to increase high-level exchanges and deepen good-neighborly mutual trust and pragmatic cooperation to advance bilateral ties.
Wen raised a three-point proposal on expanding economic and trade cooperation with Mongolia. First, Wen urged both sides to sign important economic and trade agreements to lay a solid legal basis for bilateral cooperation. Second, Wen suggested the two nations implement a range of influential projects and push for expansion of cooperation in related industries. Third, Wen also suggested China and Mongolia actively create conditions and encourage contacts between businesses of the two countries to facilitate bilateral economic and trade exchanges.
Elbegdorj said that the bilateral relationship has been developing smoothly under the guidance of the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation between China and Mongolia. Applauding China's support and help for Mongolia's social and economic progress, the president said Mongolia values its ties with China and firmly adheres to the one-China policy. Mongolia is ready to maintain high-level exchanges with China to build up political trust. Mongolia welcomes China taking part in its economic construction and hopes the two nations expand cooperation in transit transport, mineral- and animal-products processing, and disaster prevention, Elbegdorj said. Elbegdorj said his country will work with China to promote peace and stability in northeast Asia.
The Mongolian president also extended condolence to the Chinese side over the earthquake disaster of Yushu, Qinghai, for which Wen expressed thanks.
