On March 25, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

During the meeting, Wen said that China and Afghanistan both have ancient civilizations and the two peoples share traditional friendship. As a neighbor and friend, China is delighted with the progress made by Afghanistan in its peaceful reconstruction and will as always offer sincere support and assistance to the country. Wen expressed belief that the hard-working, courageous and intelligent Afghan people would be able to control their own destiny, realize national reconciliation and work together to build their homes and lead a peaceful and happy life. Wen emphasized that China-Afghanistan economic and trade cooperation enjoys broad prospects. Both sides should give full play to the role of their mixed committee on economic and trade cooperation, make detailed planning, mobilize the enthusiasm of enterprises and inject new vitality into the economic growth of the two countries for the benefit of both peoples.

Wen pointed out that terrorism and narcotics are common threats faced by Afghanistan and its neighboring countries and all parties should work closely and make unremitting efforts to cope with them. Wen asked the two countries to further respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and enhance mutual trust and consultation on an equal basis. He suggested the two states promote economic development, improve the people's livelihood and realize equality and justice in society. Wen noted the two countries should win over and unite the people, isolate the "three evil forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism, and strengthen the crackdown on transnational organized crimes. "China will step up contact and coordination with Afghanistan and the international community to strive for a secure and harmonious regional environment and push for lasting peace and common development," Wen said.

Karzai said that Afghanistan and China have been getting along well with each other and the two peoples enjoy fraternal friendship. China fully respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and understands the situation currently facing the country. The Afghan government and people are deeply grateful for the important contributions made by China for helping and supporting Afghanistan’s peaceful reconstruction. Strengthening Afghanistan-China good-neighborly friendship and cooperation is of great significance to Afghanistan’s development and progress and the Afghan side hopes to expand exchanges and cooperation with China on agriculture, economy, trade, investment, mining, infrastructure construction and education. The Afghan side is ready to enhance cooperation with China on narcotics control and security, combat the “three evil forces” and jointly safeguard regional stability and peace for common development.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming and Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Zheng Qingdian attended the meeting.
