On July 28, 2009, Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo said after the first round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (SAED) that China will make joint efforts with the US to ensure the successful visit of President Barack Obama to China within this year.

Dai said that the latest SAED is the follow-up, development and creation of previous China-US strategic economic dialogues. Both sides carried out frank, in-depth, extensive and effective dialogue on a large number of issues. Fact shows the decision made by the two heads of state of holding the SAED is critical, and it will be especially true if we look back years later.

He noted that the China-US relations have had a good beginning since President Obama took office half a year ago. China is willing to work with the US to build the positive, cooperative and comprehensive bilateral relations in the 21st century. Line is better than words. China will make concerted efforts with the US to ensure the success of President Obama's historic visit to China before the end of this year.

He stressed that both sides will maintain their core interests, i.e. national system, national security, sovereign and territorial integrity, sustainable economic development and social stability on the basis of mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual support. The joint efforts of China and the US will undoubtedly build a better future for the bilateral relations.
