From July 9 to 10, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei exchanged views in Tokyo with the Japanese side on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and the situation in Northeast Asia. Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone met with Wu and his delegation.

The two sides expressed concern over the latest developments of the situation in Northeast Asia. They also agreed while implementing in real earnest relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, all parties concerned should remain committed to resolving relevant issues in a peaceful way through dialogue and consultation so as to maintain peace and stability of Northeast Asia.

The two agreed that all parties concerned should stick to the goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the six-party talks remained the only effective mechanism to resolve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. They agreed to make efforts, along with other parties, to resume the six-party talks at an early date.

They also agreed to continue close contact on relevant issues.
