On April 23, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman in Jerusalem.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen contacts in various fields and at all levels and enhance pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade and other sectors. The two sides also vowed to promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges and push for sustained and in-depth development of bilateral friendship. During the meeting, Yang and Lieberman also exchanged views on the Middle East issue.

On the same day, Yang met in Tel Aviv with Tzipi Livni, chairwoman of Israel's Kadima party.
