On April 21, 2009, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in Cairo with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Amr Moussa on the cooperation between China and Arab states and on means of boosting the Mideast peace process.
Yang said China-Arab relations have progressed soundly since the two sides set the goal of building a new type of China-Arab partnership oriented towards peace and featuring sustainable development at the 3rd ministerial meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum.
The two sides should make greater efforts to strengthen mutual political trust and development cooperation so as to enrich bilateral ties and adapt to the profound changes of the international situation.
China praises LAS's role in promoting the political resolution of the Middle East issue, Yang said, adding that China is willing to keep contacts with the LAS to make active contributions to pushing forward the Mideast peace process, which is at a critical stage now.
For his part, Moussa said China has kept good ties with the LAS and the Arab nations, and the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, which is progressing well, has played an important role in bilateral cooperation and is conducive to the consolidation and development of Arab-China relations. Both sides have maintained close communication on the Middle East issue, he added. Moussa said the Arab side appreciates China's positive role in solving the Palestinian-Israeli issue and is willing to coordinate and cooperate with China in boosting the Mideast peace process.
