On the afternoon of 21 November 2013, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council met the press with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

Li Keqiang introduced the achievements of the 16th China-EU Summit. He expressed that China-EU relationship is one of the most important bilateral relations in the world. Both sides agreed to issue and implement China-EU 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation; to announce the launch of China-EU negotiations on the investment agreement; to actively discuss the possibility of conducting the FTA feasibility study, to strive to bring the trade volume to one trillion US dollars by 2020, to jointly support trade and investment liberalization and facilitation and to oppose trade protectionism; to strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China and the EU are different in respect of the history, the culture and the stage of development and they may have different views on some issues. But common interests far outweigh differences. Both sides should respect each other and properly manage differences through equal dialogue and consultations. China firmly supports the European integration and is ready to see a strong, prosperous and united EU. Hope both sides will grip the "steering wheel" of China-EU relations, uplift the strategic level of China-EU cooperation and push for greater development of China-EU relations for the next ten years so as to make contributions to global peace, development and prosperity that the two major economies and the two great civilizations should make.

Herman Van Rompuy and Jose Manuel Barroso expressed that the EU and Chinese leaders met at the special moment of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership. They have exchanged candid, in-depth views on EU-China relations as well as international and regional issues and reached broad consensus. The China-EU 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation has set the development course and major fields for EU-China cooperation. The EU is ready to work with China to effectively implement it, to expand mutually beneficial cooperation and to strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs and regional hotspot issues, so as to cope with global challenges and to promote common prosperity.
