On December 13, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Great Hall of the People. Both sides reached important consensus, agreeing to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation.
Wen said China and Cambodia have forged closer bilateral relations in recent years with frequent high-level contacts, close cooperation on issues involving each other's major concerns and common interests, increasing political and strategic mutual trust, and expanding pragmatic cooperation. "Facing the changing and complicated regional and international situation, China and Cambodia should share the opportunities, and join hands in coping with the challenges and promoting peace and development," said Wen.
Wen hailed the sound growth momentum and great potential of China-Cambodia trade and welcomed Cambodia to make full use of China-ASEAN FTA to further expand the Chinese market. Wen said the government would encourage Chinese companies to increase investment in Cambodia and help with its construction of special economic zones. The premier called on the two sides to increase bilateral trade to 2.5 billion U.S. dollars by 2015. China is ready to tap its own advantages to expand cooperation with Cambodia in areas including agriculture, infrastructure construction, finance and human resources, and continue to provide assistance to Cambodia, he added. China supports Cambodia’s economic development. Wen also called on the two countries to strengthen coordination within various regional mechanisms and in coping with non-traditional security threats, so as to maintain their common interest.
Hun Sen expressed his appreciation to China for its long-term support and selfless assistance to Cambodia. He also vowed that Cambodia would continue to adhere to the one-China policy and respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said Cambodia would continue to enhance the level of bilateral ties, have close contact with China at all levels, enhance mutual trust, consolidate friendship and deepen comprehensive cooperation. Hun Sen said Cambodia hoped to export agricultural products to China to expand bilateral trade. He welcomed China's investment and participation in Cambodia’s infrastructure construction. Hun Sen said Cambodia will work with China to push ASEAN-China ties to a higher level, maintain regional peace and stability and promote common development.
After the talks, the two leaders attended a signing ceremony of bilateral cooperation agreements.
Prior to the talks, Premier Wen held a welcome ceremony for Hun Sen at the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People. Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of China National Democratic Construction Association Ma Peihua, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission Zhang Ping, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Pan Guangxue and other officials attended the welcome ceremony.
