On October 29, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong in Hanoi.
Since China and Singapore established diplomatic relations 20 years ago, the two countries have carried out fruitful exchanges and cooperation in various fields in a friendly, cooperative and innovative spirit, Wen said. No matter how the international situation changes, China's position on upholding the basic principles of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs will not change, the Chinese premier said. China wishes to keep high-level contact and exchanges with Singapore and enhance their cooperation in cadre training, Wen said. Both sides should also seize the opportunity to strengthen cooperation in adjusting industrial structure and promoting sustainable development, and strive to make joint projects such as Suzhou Industrial Park and Tianjin Eco-City successful, he said. China welcomes Singaporean enterprises to take part in the development of China's northeastern and western regions, Wen said, adding bilateral economic and trade cooperation should be further expanded by way of making full use of favorable conditions brought about by the China-ASEAN free trade area and China-Singapore free trade agreement.
Lee said remarkable progress has been made in bilateral relations over the past 20 years, marked by frequent high-level exchanges and all-round cooperation in politics, trade, investment, education, culture and other fields. The two countries have also conducted good cooperation within the framework of regional cooperation mechanisms. Agreeing with Wen's cooperation proposals, Lee said Singapore would grasp the cooperation opportunities brought by China's development and strive to push bilateral economic and trade relations to a new height. China and ASEAN have maintained their friendly cooperation, which conforms to the common interests of China, Singapore as well as the international community, Lee said. The Singaporean prime minister hoped China and ASEAN would continue their efforts to achieve new progress in East Asian cooperation.
