On September 9, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Than Shwe, chairman of Myanmar's State Peace and Development Council, in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

Calling this year a year with special meaning for China-Myanmar relations, Wen said the two countries had taken the opportunity of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties to enhance high-level visits and strategic contacts. Both sides had reached consensuses on major issues concerning bilateral relations and regional peace, stability and development, he added. Both sides have made joint efforts to overcome the impact of the global financial crisis and achieved substantial growth in bilateral trade. The energy, transportation and other infrastructure projects have been advanced, injecting strong impetus into bilateral economic and technological cooperation.

Premier Wen recalled his visit to Myanmar in June this year, in which he felt the profound "paukphaw" friendship between both sides. China would continue to work closely with Myanmar to fully implement consensuses reached by the two sides to push forward bilateral ties at a new start, said the Chinese premier.

Hailing the fruitful bilateral friendly cooperation in recent years, Than Shwe told Wen Myanmar appreciated China's aid and support over the years, and firmly supported the Chinese government's positions on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang. Myanmar and China are friendly neighbors and share common interests in a wide range of areas. Than Shwe said his country would work with China to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly maintain peace and stability of the border regions and strengthen coordination in multilateral areas so as to push forward bilateral ties.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming, Vice Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission & Director General of National Energy Bureau Zhang Guobao and Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ye Dabo attended the meeting.
