On March 24, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting New Zealand's Foreign Minister Murray McCully in the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

With the joint efforts of both sides, China-New Zealand relations have maintained a sound momentum of development, said Yang. The two nations enjoy frequent exchanges at high and other levels and the Free Trade Agreement signed by both sides is being implemented smoothly. Both sides were cooperating well in the areas of economy, trade, science, technology, culture and on major international and regional issues, Yang said. "China attaches great importance to ties with New Zealand and is ready to work with it to promote bilateral comprehensive cooperative relations based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit," he said.

McCully said that the two nations shared broad common interests, and the New Zealand government attached great importance to relations with China. New Zealand firmly pursued the one-China policy and was committed to deepening the comprehensive cooperation between the two nations, he said. He expressed satisfaction with the implementation of bilateral Free Trade Agreement and the development of bilateral ties, saying that New Zealand was ready to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with China on economy, trade, agriculture and environmental protection and enhance consultations and coordination on major international and regional issues to bring more benefits to both peoples.

Both sides also exchanged views on other international and regional issues of common concern.
