The China-aided Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) Demonstration Project Kicks off

On June 18th, 2019, the Commencement Ceremony of the China-aided Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) Demonstration Project was held at the Timor-Leste state radio and television stationHeadquarter of RTTL (Radio Television Timor-Leste). Chinese Ambassador to the Timor-Leste, H.E. Dr. Xiao Jianguo and Secretary of State for Social Communications, H.E. Mr. Merício dos Reis "Akara"Akara , respectively delivered a speeches on behalf of two governments respectively. Mr. Liu Zhenhua, Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, H.E. Ms. Maria Viegas, Secretary of the Timr-Leste National Parliament of Timr-Leste, H.E. Mr. NikolauNicolau Belo, Vice-Minister of Public Works, H.E. Mr. ArsenioArsénio Pereira da Silva, Secretary of State for Cooperatives, H.E. Mr. NelioNélio Sarmento, Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, Mr. TeofiloTeófilo Caldas, Secretary of State for Art and Culture, H.E.Mr. Li Fafang Mr. Francisco Kalbuady Lay, Secretary-General of CNRT, and other Timorese dignitaries, representatives frome Chinese enterprises and institutions and representatives from Timor-Leste media attended the ceremony.

H.E. Ambassador Xiao said that the project is a milestone in the media and social communications cooperation between two countries. It is of positive significance for enriching the cultural life of Timorese, enhancing the Timor-Leste media and television industry, and promoting cultural cooperation between two countries. It is hoped that two countries will take this opportunity to deepen all-round and multi-field cooperation and further promote in-depth development of bilateral relations.

H.E. Ambassador Xiao asked the National Engineering Laboratory for Digital TV (Bei JingBeijing) and the China Potevio Co., Ltd, according to the signed Implementation Agreement had signed by two sides, to strengthen communications and cooperation with relevant Timor-Leste departments of Timor-Leste, complete the program with high quality on time, making high-definition digital TV programs available to the Timorese people as soon as possible, and . The project will let the Timorese see high-definition digital TV programs as soon as possible, and share Chinese DTMB standards, technology and experiences with Timor-Leste Government unreservedly and wholeheartedly.sharing Chinese DTMB standards, technology and experiences with Timorese Government unreservedly and wholeheartedly.

H.E. Mr. Akara, Secretary of State for Social Communications, on behalf of Timor-Leste Government of Timor-Leste, thanked the Chinese government Government for its assistance, and said that the completion of the project is of great significance to promote the development of Timor-Leste media and social communications of Timor-Leste. The Timor-LesteTimorese Government has firm confidence in the project cooperationcooperating in projects with China and hopes that the Chinese government Government will could further strengthen the support and cooperation with Timor-Leste in the fields of media and social communications so as to promote the economic and social development in the Timor-Leste.
