On April 24th, Timor Post, the largest and most widely read newspaper in Timor-Leste, published a signed article with full-page by Ambassador Xiao Jianguo, entitled "The 2nd Belt and Road Forum will benefit Timor-Leste and World".

The article shares information of the upcoming 2nd Belt and Road Forum(BRF), and announces that the Former president, Former Prime Minister, Chief Negotiator for Maritime and Boundary affairs of Timor-Leste, H.E. Mr. Xanana Gusmao will lead the Timorese delegation to attend the Forum for the 2nd time. China will, together with other Forum parties, including Timor-Leste, take stock of what has been achieved and promote the cooperation mechanism to further enrich BRI cooperation during the 2nd BRF.

The article reviewes the principles and fruitful outcomes of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) since its inception 6 years ago, against the western ludicrous claim that the BRI is setting up a "debt trap" or acting like a "geopolitical tool". The article reaffirms that China will continue to deepen reform and opening-up, promote international win-win cooperation, and share development achievements through such Forums, in order to benefit the people of Timor-Leste and world.

The article emphasizes that China-Timor-Leste relations have maintained good momentum. Timor-Leste is an important link on the Chinese Maritime Silk Road. The two countries signed a MOU on the BRI cooperation in 2017. China has become one of the Timor-Leste’s major trading partners for many years. China is willing to work together with Timor-Leste to continuously deepen the joined-built BRI, inheriting friendship from generation to generation, expanding mutual beneficial cooperation, and promoting the bilateral relations to a new level.
