H.E. Wang Wenli, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Timor-Leste, visited Kirilelo Village in Aileu, a key coffee-producing region of Timor-Leste, to inspect a coffee plantation supported by the Chinese Embassy through its paired assistance program. She was accompanied by Mr. Evangelino, former President of the Timor-Leste Coffee Association, Mr. Costa, the village chief and a local coffee farming leader, as well as coffee experts from the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Ambassador Wang noted that coffee is a major cash crop and export product for Timor-Leste, playing a vital role in the country’s economic development and livelihood improvement. China has consistently prioritized supporting the growth of Timor-Leste’s coffee industry, including facilitating the participation of Timorese coffee enterprises in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) for seven consecutive years. Through technical training, equipment donations, and other initiatives, China has helped enhance the quality and yield of Timor-Leste’s specialty coffee, boosting local farmers’ incomes.
During the visit, Ambassador Wang toured the plantation to observe coffee tree cultivation and growth conditions, while gaining detailed insights into operational management, technological applications, and production-marketing processes. She also warmly engaged with local villagers, distributing food supplies and toys as tokens of goodwill.
